A time I took initiative when I didn't have to was when I served as the co
president of the Rutgers VEXU robotics team. I saw that a lot of members in our
team weren't having a lot of luck getting internships despite having relevant
project experience and technical skills. Our team members come from diverse
backgrounds, many of them first gen so they aren't familiar with corporate
america.

In order to help our members I began planning a networking event with alumni of
our team and neighboring clubs to give advice on how to navigate the job
market.  I cold messaged close to 50+ previous members of our team oftentimes
getting no response, ghosted, or a simple no,I finally wound up getting three
alumni to speak at an event that featured job hunting advice, resume review, and
networking with peers.

While setting this event up I balanced the responsibilities managing the team
budget, travel plans to competitions, as well as teaching new members technical
skills like CAD and designing for manufacturing.

were routed and where data flowed, then I drew an architecture diagram on a

Situation/Task: Team had a growing backlog of inactive tickets that were over a
year old, and the ticket queue was growing every week.

Action: Organized a bug bash to close old tickets or assign developers to work
on them. Added longer running tickets to the next sprint backlog. There were
certain tickets which were unassigned, asked team to have oncalls have a go at
them to be discussed during next ops call, with a target of 5 oldest unassigned
tickets to be resolved if possible.

Result: Ticket count went down 50% and old ticket (+1 year) count went down 90%.
Oncalls were able to make sense of existing and new tickets without going
through pages of left tickets.
